Two Monroe County Men Charged With Vehicular Homicide and DUI

Two men from Monroe County, Georgia have recently been charged with vehicular homicide accompanied by additional charges of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

A Forsyth man has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain lane, and leaving the scene of an accident with injury and death, after a June 5th crash on Interstate 75 led to the death of a 28 year-old woman in his passenger seat.

Around 3 am near Johnstonville Road, the young woman was ejected from the white Range Rover he was operating after he apparently began to swerve off the pavement. In an attempt to get back on the road, the driver overcorrected the wheel and sent the vehicle flipping into the traffic lanes. Another woman in the vehicle was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with non-fatal injuries. Both women were also from Forsyth. The driver escaped the scene but was later caught and removed to the Monroe County jail, where he is now being held without bail.

This comes just weeks after a similar accident in Monroe County, in which a 46 year-old man was driving his 1999 Chevy Silverado Ga. 42 near Blount Road early on the morning of May 21st when he apparently drove off the road. His attempt to correct the vehicle also caused the truck to overturn, according to Georgia's The Telegraph. His passenger, a 56-year old man, was partially expelled from the passenger side window of the truck, and emergency responders pronounced him dead on the scene. The driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, and was removed to The Medical Center of Central Georgia for care.

This crash occurred around 1:30 am. Neither of the men in the vehicle were wearing their seat belts, a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff's office stated. While much of the details of these cases have yet to be revealed, there can be no arguing the fact that both drivers will need effective legal representation as criminal investigations ensue. Whether or not the defendants are guilty, intense legal cases are likely to follow the accidents that left passengers injured. Therefore, it is imperative that each of the drivers immediately seek legal representation.
